  1. This Monday was the start of Nobel Prize season. The Nobel prize is an international reward given to advancements made in regards to both culture and science. There are awards given to the discoveries made in these categories; physics, chemistry, psyology or medicine, literature, and peace.I like that these awards recognize academics and the people who create the things we need because its something they find joy in trying, these people find joy in learning new things. This years award in physics went to three men for the invention of energy efficient cost effective blue LED lights. The award in Psyology or medicine went to three people for discovering the 'gps' of the brain. The prize in chemistry went to a group of scientist who developed a super-resolved fluorescence microscopy. The nobel peace prize went to two people for their struggle against the oppression of children and the right for education. I find it hard not to be inspired by people who give there lives for things like this.

    1. Winning a Nobel Prize is a true accomplishment to anyone who wins one. I had no idea that the Nobel Prize season was already starting. I am looking forward to what new contributions will be made in science and what will be published to the public. I also like to learn about all the new intriguing things happening in the science world.

    2. This is very cool. I can imagine how great it would be to win a Novel Prize. I would say these people are satisfied enough to say that they have developed such influential creations in their field of work, like the LED bulbs, the 'gps' of the brain, and the super-resolved fluorescence microscopy. However, to then go on and win a Nobel Prize for their creations is beyond what they may have ever imagined! The world of science is a tricky place. There are many theories and heated discussions over different things, and to be acknowledged with something as important as the Nobel Prize as a scientist in this field of study, is extraordinary! It is also very cool, because now, if there was nobody who knew about these creations, me for example, are now aware of them, and they will continue to grow and develop! Winning a Nobel Prize for their creations will only make them more likely to keep growing and becoming greater. This was a great award for all these scientists.

    3. As a person who inspires to have a career in science, this is amazing to me. I wish to be a contributor to science when I grow up. The people that give their lives to science and do great things have an amazing character and should be looked up to by generations.

  3. The first patient in the United States with Ebola passed away earlier this week, but that didn't ensure the virus has been stopped. A nurse who was working with the patient has contracted Ebola and is in Isolation. A Yale student returning from Africa had signs of a fever and is in Isolation being tested for Ebola. This is getting serious now in my opinion, the Federal Government needs to step it up, they are considering grounding all the people that worked at the hospital in Texas. But the worse thing is now, a nurse is being transferred from Texas to Maryland, By plane! The government needs to restrict flights coming in from Africa, a large portion of other countries such as France and Great Britain have already restricted flights, why hasn't America done the same?

    1. This is getting very scary. It is very dangerous and it can easily get out of hand if the government does not step up and try to handle it. Anyone who has any correlation with the patient who died in that hospital needs to be taken and tested, along with anyone else who they have come in contact with. Those people need to stay out of public areas and remain alone, and taken care of until this is figured out. Airlines need to stop transporting people from infected areas into the United States. People around susceptible areas need to be constantly tested and assure that they do not contract the disease. The government needs to take action and put an end to this scare.

    2. A lot of American food are transported from Africa. One example is chocolate beans. If the flights for people have to be stopped, than so do those resources. Americans and African airports should be testing people and preventing anybody on a plane that does not have a normal body temperature. America has the resources to prevent the virus from spreading rapidly, but the Government, indeed, needs to step it up and prevent this disease.

  4. My current event this week is on Ebola. I'm sure everyone has heard of the crisis. It has spread to the United States and has been found in a few people. There was a man who brought it back with him from Africa, who died in Texas last week. There was the two nurses who contracted it from that same hospital in Texas, and then there was the deal with the cruise ship. There was a passenger aboard this ship that was the only person loosely linked to the single man who died, in the U.S., of the disease. However, health authorities cleared her after an odyssey at sea. The drama goes back to her work as a lab supervisor at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, the center of a maelstrom of Ebola fears in the United States. The hospital in Dallas sent out an apology for the turmoil it caused. People were terrified, and this scare affected many different areas of business. The cruise lines, and the people aboard them, were in shock and they were frightened, angry, and very uncomfortable. Airlines stopped giving selling tickets to anyone who came in contact with Ebola-infested areas after the U.S. tried to fly the susceptibly infected nurse back to the U.S. from Belize. This scare has caused all kinds of chaos around the world and people are panicking over this disease. The United States government needs to step it up and make a plan to end this disease, or at least stop it from spreading. Instead of remaining very judgment minded towards the Dallas hospital and blaming them for all this chaos, make some changes, and get something done to stop this disease.

  5. The people of Ferguson, and people around the nation are preparing to hear about what the grand jury is going to verdict. Michael Browns father calls for calm before the hearing. He said, “My family and I are hurting. Our whole region is hurting. I thank you for lifting your voices and to end racial profiling and police intimidation, but hurting others or destroying property is not the answer.” He had also said, “No matter that the grand jury decides, I do not want my son’s death to be in vain. I want it to lead to incredible change-positive change- change that makes the St. Louis region better for everyone.” Demonstrations for racial profiling have erupted in the Ferguson region, along with heavily armed police lashing back at protesters demanding justice. The grand jury decision comes Friday.
I am worried for the people of Ferguson and their actions from the Jury if it is not the justice that they wanted. I feel bad for the family, and how their sons death has provokes violence from the police, but it had sent a message to the people that, racial profiling should be no more. People are rallying not just for the justice of Michael, but for also the justice of themselves and for their friends and family that have been scrutinized by their color.
